With tallying roughly 145,000 units per year and the in Missouri running at capacity but still struggling to satisfy Chevy Colorado demand, it’s safe to say that Chevrolet made the right move by returning to the midsize pickup truck space. The entire segment, however, will soon get a prominent new rivals with the 2019 Ford Ranger and upcoming Jeep Scrambler, models that promise to shake things up considerably in the space. To counter, Chevy has a Colorado refresh planned for the 2020 model year (see more on the 2020 Chevy Colorado), but before that happens, the Colorado is getting a long list of minor changes and updates for the 2019 model year – the fifth year of the second-gen model. Here’s what’s new for the.
What’s New For Exterior
On the outside, the 2019 Colorado loses four colors while gaining three new ones:
- Deletion of Centennial Blue Metallic exterior color
- Deletion of Wheatland Yellow exterior color (still available as a special order color for fleets)
- Deletion of Deepwood Green Metallic exterior color
- Deletion of Graphite Metallic exterior color
- Shadow Gray Metallic
- Pacific Blue Metallic
Additionally, all Colorado ZR2 models now feature black bowties, and the 18-inch Dark Argent metallic cast aluminum wheels are replaced by a new set with the same size and finish, but with a new design.
What’s New For Interior
Inside, the 2019 Colorado gets all-new infotainment systems: the Chevrolet MyLink units get replaced with Chevrolet Infotainment System units of the same 7- and 8-inch screen size – depending on the trim level. Additionally, the 8-inch units are labeled as “HD color touch-screens”, indicating that they are of a higher quality.
There are also changes to the USB ports: the USB data ports (one located on the instrument panel and another inside the center console) are replaced with one type-A and one type-C USB data ports on the front console. The new USB port configuration also includes an SD Card Reader and an auxiliary input jack.
Continuing with the in-vehicle technology, the 2019 Colorado gets a second in-cabin microphone for the passenger, along with two new safety features. The first is the addition of an HD as standard on LT, Z71 and ZR2 trims. On prior model years, the only Rear Vision Camera was the non-HD version, which remains remains on Base and Work Truck trims.
The second is the addition of Ultrasonic, which is available on Work Truck and LT trim levels, and standard on the Z71 trim level. It is not available on the Base or the ZR2 trims.
What’s New For Packages
The 2019 Colorado deletes two packages – the Colorado Centennial Edition and Shoreline Special Edition, while adding equipment to the Luxury and Safety packages.
The Luxury package now includes heated steering wheel and the Safety package now includes Rear Park Assist, both of which are new for the 2019 model year.
What’s New For Powertrain
The 2019 Colorado remains powered by the same three engines as in prior years:
- gasoline engine mated to the 6-speed manual N8D or 6-speed automatic MYB
- gasoline engine mated to the 8-speed automatic M5T
- LWN turbo-diesel engine mated to the 6-speed automatic MYB
However, the 2019 model year brings about one change: the 2.5L LCV can now be ordered only by fleets on the 4WD Extended Cab models.
And that rounds out what’s new for the 2019 Chevy Colorado. We expect the midsize truck to get refreshed for the 2020 model year – see our expectations about those changes on the page.
